Natural and Artificial Systems: Designs and Patterns
Although the qualitative characteristic of a system, namely “The whole is more than the sum of its parts” was originally stated by Aristotle more than two millennia ago, the history of modern research on systems is not older than even one century. Most interesting are those systems that are complex and adaptive. Designs in the natural world have evolved by tinkering over millions of years. Innovative engineers often draw inspirations from the natural systems to design artificial systems. Exotic spatial and temporal patterns form in both natural and artificial systems far from equilibrium. The focus of this interdisciplinary international conference is structure and dynamics, hardware and software, design and emergent patterns in natural and artificial systems. Both theoretical and experimental works on the fundamentals and applications of complex systems will be covered from the perspectives of design and pattern.
